Raghunath Murmu (1905- 1982),was born in Mayurbhanj district of Orissa. He was a Santhal educator and a writer who developed the Ol Chiki language for the Santhal community and had written many novels and plays in this language.Every year an award named after him as Raghunath Murmu Puraskar, is awarded to the distinguished, talented tribal artists and to the tribal intellectuals in the recognition of their contribution.
Somai Kisku was born on 25 February 1959 in Basantapur village, Jamalpur Police Station of undivided district of Bardhaman. While fighting with extreme poverty and from the experience he gained from struggling for living, he showed interest in Literature and in 1988 formed Santhali Sahitya Parishad which gained recognition as " Santhali Sahitya Baisi". In 2002 his life-oriented novel "Ratan" and in 2005 " Kheriwal Santhal Ratan" was published. The novels reflect the experience he gained from his struggle for livelihood. Both these novels are now a part of the syllabus for Bardhaman University and Sidhu Kanhu Birsha University. In 2010, for his novel "Namania" he was honoured with Sahitya Akademi and Samsong, Korean Literature Award. His contribution for the development of Santhal society and Santhal culture is beyond imagination.
