Lalon Fakir(1772-1890), was a fakir, philosopher,poet,composer and social thinker of British India. His songs reflect the philosophy of humanity and he rejected caste, class, racism and religion.For him the religion of all humanbeings should be humanity, a philosophy that touched many poets and writers like Rabindranath Tagore as well.Every year an award known as Lalon Puraskar is awarded to the distinguished and aged folk singers for their prolonged and rich contribution in their field
Abdul Hasib, the contemporary of the king of Alkap Jhaksu, was born in Murshidabad district of Bharatpur village in1940. He is considered at present as one of the eminent and renowned Alkap artiste. He is the elder son of Abdul Wahab (father) and Haseba Bewa (mother). He started his training at a tender age of eleven under the aegis of stalwart teachers like Naushad Seikh and Dulu Seikh. Other than Alkap he also performed in Plays like Behula-Lakkhindar, Rupban etc in female character.Later on he gained fame mainly as an Alkap artiste. Besides West Bengal he also performed in the neighbouring State and Country like Orissa and Bangladesh. Today even at an age over eighty, this artiste has still engaged himself with Alkap and participates in different workshops as a expert. The contribution of Abdul Hasib in folk culture of Bengal is undeniable.
